Varanasi also known as Benares or Banaras and Kashi is a city situated on the left bank of the River Ganga in the state of Uttar Pradesh India.The city has been a cultural and religious centre in northern India for several thousand years. According to legend, the city was founded by the Hindu deity, Shiva, around 5,000 years ago. Varanasi is one of the seven sacred cities of Hindus.

Varanasi Geography
The city of Varanasi is located in the middle Ganga valley of North India. The urban agglomeration is stretched between 82° 56’E - 83° 03’E and 25° 14’N - 25° 23.5’N.located in the Gangetic plains of North India. The temperature ranges between 32°C – 46°C (90°F – 115°F) in the summers, and 5°C – 15°C (41°F – 59°F) in the winters.
